Whether through art or athleticism, those who dedicate their lives to performance enrich the human spirit and bring people together.
FIT proposes the Performance Career Income Protection Scheme (PCIPS) to support individuals whose physical careers end prematurely
due to injury, aging, or systemic decline—ensuring they are not discarded after their peak.
Expanded Scope
This policy includes:
- Performing Artists: Circus performers, dancers, actors, musicians, stunt professionals, and others in live performance roles.
- Professional Athletes: Sportspeople who earned their living through physical performance and can no longer continue due to age, injury, or burnout.
Eligibility Criteria
- Minimum of 8–10 years of documented professional experience in performing arts or competitive sport.
- Proof of career-ending condition (medical, age-related, or industry decline).
- Must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
- Not receiving substantial unrelated passive income.
Support Provided
- Monthly income support based on average of last 5 working years (subject to fairness cap).
- Career transition assistance: education, coaching, broadcasting, creative industries, etc.
- Mental health and identity transition support.
- Opportunities to mentor young performers or athletes through public programs.
Funding Mechanism
- National cultural and sports budget allocations.
- Minor levies on major sports events, commercial entertainment, and broadcasts.
- Voluntary opt-in contributions during active career for enhanced benefits.
